The GDC Festival of Gaming 2027 will run for four days, from Monday 1 March to Thursday 4 March 2027, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the organisers say in a scheduling update addressed to the GDC community. When the 2026 edition closed, GDC had announced 1–5 March 2027, a five-day week like the one just held, in its closing release. GamesBeat reported the change on 19 October 2026; the official page itself carries no date.

How the four days are split

  • Conference sessions run Monday to Thursday, with larger session rooms and more hands-on workshops, according to GDC.
  • A Business Hall at Moscone West offers dedicated space for meetings and deal-making, also Monday to Thursday.
  • The Festival Hall at Moscone South, with partner stages, activations and lounges, opens Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Career programming, previously concentrated on the Friday, is spread over all four days: career sessions, portfolio reviews, workshops and ask-me-anything sessions.
  • Student Day, for high school and college students interested in game careers, moves to Thursday.

GDC calls the change a deliberate move towards a higher-quality, more focused event, concentrating programming on the days when the community is most active and making it easier for attendees to fit the event around work and personal commitments. The update also mentions new, lower-cost pass tiers without listing prices, and says the scholarship programme will continue to give more than 2,000 Festival Passes a year, through partner organisations, to underrepresented developers and people affected by layoffs.

What changes for job seekers and small studios

The biggest change is for job seekers and students. A Friday career day came at the end of the week, after many studio staff had already left San Francisco. Spreading portfolio reviews and career sessions across the main days puts people looking for work in the building at the same time as recruiters and leads. Whether there will be enough slots will only be clear when the schedule is published.

For small studios, one fewer night in San Francisco is a direct saving on hotels, and the Business Hall gives meeting-driven attendees, such as teams pitching to publishers, a fixed space for four days. Teams that come mainly for the show floor get one day less, since the Festival Hall is open only Tuesday to Thursday.

The Game Developers Choice Awards, presented at GDC on 2 March 2027, now accept submissions from developers and publishers until 1 November 2026 (our earlier report). Pass prices and the full programme have not yet been published.
