Housemarque released the free Zenith update for Saros on 19 October 2026, adding a boss rush, a New Game+ and options that make the PS5 shooter easier to get into. In a PlayStation Blog post, Zenith design lead Abebe Tinari says the team wanted to give players who have finished the game reasons to return to the alien world of Carcosa, and to welcome newcomers. Saros launched on PS5 on 30 April 2026, according to an earlier PlayStation Blog post.

Slow Game Speed, auto-fire and gyro aiming

Saros is a fast third-person shooter with dense enemy fire. Zenith adds three options for players who find that hard to read:

  • Slow Game Speed slows the action to give more time to react to enemy attack warnings. Players choose how much, and whether it switches on automatically in combat or is toggled by hand.
  • Auto-fire fires the weapon when the player aims at an enemy. Reloading stays manual, so a well-timed “perfect reload” still needs a button press.
  • Motion Sensor Aiming adds gyro aiming with the controller, alongside the existing button remapping.

Ten new Protection Modifiers also make runs more forgiving. Tinari’s example converts built-up Corruption into extra damage on a melee hit.

Eclipse Layers and Arjun’s crown

After finishing Saros, players can unlock Eclipse Layers, the game’s New Game+. Each layer is a harder version of the game with changed rules. Before starting, players build a set of Carcosan Modifiers, with a minimum level of difficulty required. Zenith adds ten new Trial Modifiers that raise difficulty, for a total of 25 Trials. In one, “Hostile Regeneration”, weapon fire only stuns larger enemies, they regenerate quickly, and only melee can finish them.

In Eclipse Layers, the protagonist Arjun wears a crown and his armour glows gold. The crown grows as the player takes on more Trials and a harder modifier balance, and it is not only cosmetic: 12 new collectible “Visions”, murals and messages placed around Carcosa, can only be read in full at higher crown levels. Housemarque is rewarding mastery with story rather than just a trophy.

Overlord Rush

The new Overlord Rush mode is a timed boss rush against the game’s Overlords, with global leaderboards that can be filtered by main weapon. “Incursion” and “Ascension” each contain three bosses and take about ten minutes; “Totality” puts all eight Overlords in one run. The mode needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account. The post does not include full patch notes, so balance and bug-fix changes are not yet clear.
