Cloud Imperium Games’ Squadron 42, the single-player campaign set in the Star Citizen universe, now has a Steam store page with a planned release window of Q2 2027. That is a quarter, not a day, and the game cannot be bought yet: the page shows no price, only a wishlist button. According to GameSpew and TwistedVoxel, both reporting on 11 October, the listing appeared alongside a new trailer while Cloud Imperium held a hands-on preview weekend at its UK office.
What the Steam page lists
- Developer and publisher: Cloud Imperium Games Ltd and Cloud Imperium Games Texas LLC are listed as developers; Roberts Space Industries International Ltd and Roberts Space Industries LLC are the publishers.
- Premise: players enlist as a rookie in the UEE Navy. The story moves between fighter cockpits, capital ships, space stations and frontier outposts during a galactic war.
- Minimum PC specs: 64-bit Windows 11, a quad-core CPU (Intel Sandy Bridge or AMD Bulldozer or later), 16 GB of RAM, a DirectX 11.1 graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM, DirectX 12, a broadband connection and 150 GB of storage. Recommended specs were not readable when we checked.
- Languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese. The text version of the page does not show which of the ten get full audio rather than interface and subtitles.
- Content: the developer’s content note warns of strong language, intense violence, blood and gore.
The trailer and the preview weekend
GameSpew says the new trailer again shows the game’s cast, including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, John Rhys-Davies and Liam Cunningham. TwistedVoxel reports that the official site also opened wishlisting, and that some invited content creators shared impressions from the preview at Cloud Imperium’s UK office, where gameplay capture was not allowed. We have not seen the build and offer no impressions of it.
What backers still don’t know
Squadron 42 was first announced in 2012 and has been funded through Star Citizen‘s crowdfunding, mostly sold on Cloud Imperium’s own Roberts Space Industries site, GameSpew notes. A Steam listing with system requirements and a quarter-specific window is the most concrete storefront commitment the project has made so far. Two questions remain open: the page gives no specific day, and it does not explain how existing backers’ pledges will relate to a Steam copy. Until both are answered, Q2 2027 is a target rather than a settled date.
