Bandai Namco Entertainment will not keep Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 running next to its successor, the publisher said on 28 October 2026 as it revealed Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3, a free-to-play team battle game for PS5 and PC. “We do not plan to operate GBO2 and GBO3 in parallel,” reads the notice on Battle Operation 2’s English site, which adds that the sequel has no release date yet.
The reveal came during a livestream marking 40 years of Gundam games. According to Denfaminicogamer’s report on the stream and Bandai Namco’s press release, mobile suits and other in-game assets earned in Battle Operation 2 cannot be transferred to the new game; the team is instead considering bonuses for Battle Operation 3 based on players’ Battle Operation 2 records. The English notice does not mention the carry-over question. Until the switch, the Japanese schedule notice lists a new mobile suit every Thursday from 29 October to 26 November, a large balance update on 26 November and campaigns through 31 December.
The sequel’s first test is closed to most of that audience. The official test page limits the advance network test on 20 and 22 November to Battle Operation 2 players who live in Japan, with applications through the Battle Operation 2 client from 29 October to 8 November. The test runs on PS5 and Steam with cross-play, offers ten mobile suits and two maps, and its save data will not carry over to the full release.
Battle Operation 3 keeps the series’ 6-versus-6 matches, with custom rooms of up to 9 versus 9, and players can still leave their mobile suit to fight on foot. Each machine gains an SP skill charged by a gauge, and a Battle Assist option simplifies combo inputs. The roster reaches beyond the Universal Century timeline: Denfaminicogamer reports that Gundam SEED units are in at launch, with two or three more series planned for the first year. The official site lists 1 to 18 players and some paid content, and the Steam page names Bandai Namco Forge Digitals as developer and lists English, Japanese, Korean and both Chinese scripts.
Battle Operation 2 is not a Japan-only game. It launched on PS4 in Japan in July 2018, reached English-speaking players in October 2019, came to PS5 in January 2021 and to Steam in May 2023, according to Anime News Network. English-language coverage of the reveal has so far focused on the new game’s platforms and series line-up; for players outside Japan, the practical news is that eight years of unit collecting stay in Battle Operation 2, and that no test date for them has been announced.
