Inside GameTales

Ren Arden

Ren Arden is the pen name of the editor who runs GameTales. Ren chooses what the journal covers, checks each story and approves it before it is published, here and on our Telegram channel.

What Ren covers

Game releases and the business behind them, with a focus on news from Japan, China and South Korea that rarely reaches English-language readers. Ren also follows game engines and tools: Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot and the AI tools developers are starting to use.

Sources followed every day

Japan: AUTOMATON, 4Gamer.net, Game*Spark, Inside Games and Denfaminicogamer, plus publishers’ own notices and investor releases. South Korea: Inven, GameMeca and Gametoc. China: Gcores and publishers’ official accounts. Platforms and engines: PlayStation Blog, Xbox Wire, Steam news, and the Unity, Unreal Engine and Godot release notes.

These outlets are where a story is found, not where its facts come from: every article states each fact from the original announcement, patch note or filing and links to it.

How stories are made

GameTales is a small, AI-assisted newsroom. An AI research assistant (Anthropic’s Claude) searches announcements, reads sources in Japanese, Chinese, Korean and English, and drafts each story with links to the original material. Ren reviews the full text, the sources and the images, and decides whether the story runs. Nothing is published automatically.

We use a pen name because GameTales is a one-person project, not to invent a staff. The editor is a real person and is responsible for every published word.
